Cycas Sago Palm Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My cycas which has recently been planted (used a liquid palm tree specific fertiliser when i planted) has had an issue with some "rust" like effect on leaves.

Plant has sustained some heat as temps were over 35 here but don't know if this is related to heat or something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sunburn? Was it previously under shade?

There's one in my apartment complex in Texas that survived Palmageddon plus winter 2022 and it's thriving.

The spots and ruffled leaves look a bit like "frizzle top" due to manganese (not magnesium) deficiency.  Or it could be a bug munching on the leaves.  Check the bottom of the leaves for small white specks.  It could be Asian Cycas Scale aka Cycas Aulacaspis Scale.

The white spots on the dark green leaves bother me more. Cycas revoluta (a cycad, not a palm) is highly susceptible to Asian scale. I won’t let the plants into my yard because of it.
