I've been searching around for the skinnest trunking palm, single none clumping but clumping is fine too because I wanna zone push for fun and want something almost as skinny as a bambo or something but not like Areca but solitary, I did google but I couldnt find anything and theirs probably species that won't be named off the top

There was one that I think had a skinny trunk but I can't remember what it was, I know some Chamaedorea have pretty skinny trunks but which types are cold hardy or don't mind being indoors in winter?

Chamaedorea are all pretty tough and also do well indoors. There's always a risk for spider mites, just throw them in the shower.

Calling the prophet of the church of radicalis, @DoomsDaveis the man with the seeds. Cold hardy in your area I bet, skinny trunks and solitary. Also do well in containers and inside. The seeds I got from Dave are kicking butt

How long ago did these sprout?

Last summer, the biggest are maybe a foot tall. They were one community pot, split to a second. Probably going to split those into 2 more. I've got C.tepejilote coming up also. I know about patio squad drama;)

My Radicalis aren't doing great, and I don't remember when they sprouted.  I guess I did neglect them. Out of all the seeds Dave sent, I've got 2 tiny little guys. One whole pot flew away in a storm

Chamaedorea plumosa seems like a candidate.

Funny you mention this one because I was just looking at it on palmpedia and it looks like a mini queen palm or fox tail so that might be interesting to try 🤠

He actually sent me some last year but because I'm neglectful I still haven't sprouted them so the germination rate will either be next to nothing, I'm a terrible seed sprouter 😬

I'm prepared, I plan on getting a powerful grow light eventually and my banana gets rinsed occasionally because I had 2 times were mites found it but those were just isolated incidents and haven't returned in a longg time

There's pics of mine in the Patio Squad thread. They're awesome little palms and quick growers. It's also known as the Baby Queen palm. I've got 4 in a 2g pot I bought from Phil sometime last year. Thirsty little buggers.

I just went to go look at yours because this is the first time I've actually taken notice of them they kinda always flew over my head, I mean I personally think queen palms look ratty but these mini sized looking ones are pretty cool and I've noticed you don't show it often since it's always pushing something out? 😂

On average how quick does it push up new leaves?

In your area those should be able to winter over especially with proper sitting. I'd take half of them and bury them where you want them to come up. Mulch, ignore, and I bet next spring/summer they will start popping up. Start the other half in a community pot to hedge your bet

Do you think they would still be viable after a year of not being germinated?

Put em in a cup of water and see if you have sinkers, but even if they all float plant them anyway. Soak overnight and plant. Good luck :greenthumb:

Too fast for me to count tbh. They're kind of buried in my corner, but they're getting really tall really fast. I'll try and get a pic when I get home from work today. You'll be happy with the growth, but they're kind of hard to find right now. Jungle Jack's told me they'd have more in their Etsy store "soon" like 3 months ago, and Phil puts them on sale from time to time but you're gonna pay just as much for shipping as you do for the palms since they're coming from San Diego.

Just to give you an idea though, they're growing just as fast as my Queen and probably double the size they were when I bought them.

Oh that's good, love fast growing palms, I don't think I've seen your plumosa fully, just the trunk but that would be awesome thanks! I was hoping seeds would be cheaper option or that they were common, how much do they go for?

I paid like $60 for mine at an end-of-year sale in Dec 2020. Actually found a pic on my phone.

60$ isn't too bad if I made money, I just want some seeds but if I saw this palm somewhere or in a photo without a name I'd literally believe it's a queen because they look soooooo similar it's actually crazy that they aren't???

They look really nice for a short palm, are you going to seperate them?

They look kinda funky to me as solo plantings but at some point in time I'll need to spread them out in a bigger pot. They're in a 2g right now. When I got them, a couple of them were planted crooked and growing into each other, so I had to train them with bamboo stakes between the trunks to straighten them out. I do wish I bought like 1 or 2 more of these if I knew I'd like them so much.

I love funky solo palms, If Acoelorrhaphe grew solo I'd have one of those weird and by itself somewhere :floor: I'll have to keep my eye out for plumosa and hope I find somebody selling one or seeds but I did find Chamaedorea woodsoniana to look cool but Chamaedorea seifrizii which seems more widely available

Elegans are cheap as hell everywhere. the Aldi grocery stores have them in 4" pots for like $4 here and there's tons of them in the pot. Or there's an Etsy seller that sells some really nice tall ones for right around $40 shipped. Snyder and Sons I think. I bought a couple of those for housewarming gifts for my employees last year.

I just went to look them up and I didn't even realize they got like that, It's great they look great when they community pot them up but I really like the mature version without the stunted growth from over crowding

Most of the ones in community pots will die over time anyway due to overcrowding. The ones on Etsy are pretty nice, there's like 3 or 4 3 ft tall palms in a 1g pot. The ones I bought for my staff were already flowering when they arrived, too.

These are my survivors. I got the seeds before Snowpacolypse and they didn't start to pop until sometime late last summer. Tbf these last 2 have had their pot flooded, seen drought, been neglected, have hardly been fertilized. And they're big enough that I can repot and add more dirt now.

I love the little ones, they are so cute, I wish young queen palms didn't look so ratty, Their leaves are just everywhere it's like looking at tangled earphones wires 😂

Tough a$$ plants, they deserve some love! Wouldn't be surprised if the other seeds that got swept away by the storm haven't started randomly sprouting down the street.

The invasion has begun

Is this of the trunk of plumosa? that's a pretty good size trunk, aren't these palms a little crown shafted like the thick part under the leaves?

Proportionally speaking it's probably Ceroxylon quindiuense.  Trunk is still huge but when the palm is 250ft tall it doesn't appear that way.

Oh these are pretty cool, I just went on palmpedia and see a bunch of different kinds with different leaves and they all have very skinny trunks and I saw that @Pal Meirhas grown a species in a pot before and they look pretty good 🤠

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this one but Chamaedorea brachypoda is vying for the title of most etheral trunk...

According to Christian Faulkner, as I understood and hopefully I'm not misquoting him, rehydrate seeds until they sink, however long that takes.

Looks like I have to severely crop my photos before they will upload... alas this is my Chamaedorea brachypoda-one of the first palms I planted when I moved in. It struggled until I removed the canopy; who'd s thought this little guy would like full sun?!

I saw Lytocaryum insigne grown by Pal Meir and I love the way it looks, maybe not the "skinnest" but it looks awesome 😍
