Livistona Rotundifolia at HEB

For any TX peeps here, I just grabbed a small L. Rotundifolia in a 6" pot for $12 at HEB of all places.  I don't believe I've ever seen them for sale anywhere locally before.  This one came from the League City store on 96 but I'm sure they all have them.

Wow!!!! The leaves are so beautiful, very glossy and looks so clean!

Very nice!  I've never seen this offered anywhere.  For what it's worth it's a 10a palm and it's now called Saribus rotundifolia (renamed from Livistona).  Another example of growers failing to use the most updated name.  HEB around here don't sell many plants and no palms unfortunately.

Do they have anything cold hardy for sale? Barton springs had bxj for $2000 and Brahea Armata for $800. Nothing else interesting.

I drove by the PNC Bank in Harlingen today and got a pic of the tall Saribus rotundifolia that was growing in their landscape.  Needless to say it didn't survive 22° during Palmageddon.

I have a couple that size that did pretty well in the January 2022 freeze here.  A front yard one saw 27-28F with frost and had about 50% burn but recovered nicely.  A Saribus Robinsoniana in the backyard saw 24-25F with canopy and was pretty much okay.  Maybe not a solid 9B but probably upper 20s ok when larger.

I'll have to swing by the HEB here in HuntsVegas. I'm sure I'll be disappointed but at least I can pick up some of those cheddar poblano chicken sausages.

The only palms they had were cat palms here.... I did snatch up a Mission to Mars mangave for like $12 though.

Also no chicken poblano sausages. 😕

I'll never understand why some places get the good stuff and some just get the shaft haha

Apparently me, Taco Cabana, and the Holiday Inn are the only palm growers in Huntsville.

As long as they are protected from direct frost, these things have survived down to -5C at my old garden.  Summer sun always fried mine so I always grew them in sheltered spots.
