Chamaerops Humilis Vulcano example

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello,

I just thought I would post an example of chamaerops humilis vulcano here in NC.  I assume the ID is right although I know there is some variability in the species.  It has been in the ground about 10 years and has only been damaged a few times.  It's very easy to cover if need be due to its compact size.  It's a good candidate for zone 7b!

Looking good!   Makes a great palm and looks like you have the placement spot on.

Here is mine. I just love how stiff theirs fronds are. Do they speed up once in the ground ? 20221001_153339.thumb.jpg.f5bd5c719317f5fad7f2d2a2b08fbebf.jpg

That’s a nice palm…may want to try that if I expand my rather limited planting zone…I do think I can move on back into the yard a bit…nice job on yours.

I believe they do speed up once in ground...although for me that seems to be the case with most species!

A word to those seeking this variety: I noticed that a well known SoCal palm nursery is offering (incl. via mail order) on sale some 5-gal. 'Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano', at least as of yesterday, 11/28/2023. 😁

Yep. But I didn't want to violate any rule about posting that explicitly on this forum, even though Phil is a member! He's got a HUGE end-of-year sale underway. 😉
