Spotted this lone palmetto off US-70 between Durham and Raleigh. There were also several trachys and lots of sabal minor. Sorry about the poor picture quality - I'm a terrible photographer lol

That's pretty cool because it doesn't look recently planted although we have had a streak of good winters.

Is this one located along Glenwood Ave, up towards Briar Creek?

Based on google street view it looks like it's been there since at least 2011.  Must have good genetics!

Its in front of Atlantic Spas and Billiards located at 8721 US-70, Raleigh NC. Using Google Streetview, I can see it was planted sometime prior to 2007, along with several others that have since been removed. I suspect those ones died. But this one clearly made it through the winter of 2018 with no problems.

Yes , I was going to reiterate what others noted about the fact that it looks like it has been there a while , and if it made it through 2018 it is a special palm . That might be a   good  one to collect seed from or maybe watch for seedlings .

Just a little over an hour east of Raleigh, in the Winterville/Greenville NC area, there are many examples of sabals that survived 2018 with lower temps than we had here in Raleigh. That's where I collected my seeds from and all of the sabals in my yard are from those seeds.

Upon closer inspection it looks like it MAY have had a little help in the form of another palmetto giving it some ice/overhead protection as the other palmetto looks to be right on top of it in 2017 but still nice
