Luciala Grandis leaves are drying. I’m giving drinking water once a week, and spraying leaves with water. I am also using liquid fertiliser every 30-45 days. I transferred the pot last march but I have had this problem only for a month or so. I even had beautiful green leaves coming out and growed after transfer but now it’s also drying as you can see in the pictures.

What can I do ? Should I buy humidifier ? More or less water? Any tips are appreciated.

Too much water and not enough heat will give results like this.

Better check the soil moisture once week with a soil moisture meter.

Thank you very much, I ordered a soil moisture meter now  and will be using that for watering. Heat should be up in the coming days.(central heating for the apartment)

Root rot. The soil is too wet. Your soil also looks like dense, black muck and may be suffocating the roots. Your palm needs loose, free draining potting mix. Where are you? If in Europe PTers here have presented recipes for soil mixes suitable for palms. How warm is your house? I agree with @MelvinBthat you may be keeping the temp too low. Tropical palms want high temperatures and high humidity, i.e., above 25-30C during the day and >70% humidity. Too wet mucky soil and low temps are a death sentence for a Licuala.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I’m in Ankara, Turkey.  Weather is dry but warm.

The soil that I'm using is this:

Temp was only below -20 last two weeks maybe and it will be +25 after this week. It looks black mush because I took the photos after watering today maybe that’s why. But if  there is something I can do to up the quality  please let me know and I will try. Ordered humidifier and soil moisture meter, will water the plant according to that. Is the plant beyond saving?

@PalmatierMeg  @MelvinB thank both of you taking the time and writing.

20C in a dry house long term does not lead to a happy, healthy palm. Licualas want high heat and high humidity. In all honesty I am not thrilled with your palm’s survival prospects, particularly in that soil. Do some research here on what palm growers in northern climates do to keep their palms surviving over winter. It’s a labor of love, not style or fashion. Tropical palms have needs and wants and will not compromise on those as I have found out the hard way.
