Washingtonia robusta wind damage

20221025_133944.thumb.jpg.9c22256f54ba8a65286a691ba63cd0f4.jpgThis morning my heart dropped after i saw 3 fronds damaged by windy ( 25- 28 mph wind gusts) conditions.  Aren't palms supposed to handle a lot more wind speeds before they show signs of wind damages ?

Dont worry, it will get more robust as it grows larger. Is it a recent transplant?

I just noticed one of my Washingtonia filifera (looks about the same size as your Washingtonia robusta) sporting a "gansta lean" this morning.  My Ensete sp. was also tilting as well.  Wind is just a fact of life here.

Agree with @Palmfarmer. Washies grow fast and it will replace those fronds quickly. Any palm planted outdoors is subject to the whims of Nature. Let the leaves stay until they turn brown as the palm will withdraw nutrients from them.

Ok that's good to know.  I've bought this palm in mid March this year.  Came in a 5 gallon pot .

Definitely leave the leaves alone until they're completely brown this time.   More cold fronts move in , the days of windy weather also increases.

I have a filibusta or filifera ( can't tell which one ) planted two weeks ago and it has zero damage .  Took this picture yesterday morning
