Going to take my dad to San Diego for the first time this weekend.  He's never been.

What's the name of the park with the giant Butia x Jubaea I always see photos of?

You mean the Hilton hotel at Mission Beach with 25+ standard Jubaea? :hmm:

Lots of nice mature palms planted along East Mission Bay Drive adjacent to the Hilton too.  I'm not aware of the public plantings of Jubea × Butia that Adam is searching for but would recommend Balboa Park as the next best public planting of palms for large scale.

Obviously the Zoo and Quail Botanic Garden, oops I meant San Diego Botanical Gatden here in Encinitas for public gardens where one must pay to enter would be alternates.

The entire park in nice; however, Palm Canyon in Balboa Park is my favorite.

I think this is the one you are talking about https://www.palmpedia.net/wiki/File:Ec1b96.jpg

Unfortunately the Palmpedia page just says "Southern California."  https://www.palmpedia.net/wiki/File:Butia_x_Jubaea_with_Jubaea_in_background.jpg

I think someone here ID'd the location of that palm a few years ago, but I have no clue how to find that particular post.

Edit: here's the "xJubautia splendens 'Don Nelson'" at Warner Park, CA: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1768974,-118.6050608,3a,75y,113.89h,90.79t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sf3AzceuXcTcA0nZHD-4aAg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

According to the document I found, "Additional mature specimens of this cultivar in California occur in the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, the Apollo Arboretum of the Renaissance Winery at Oregon House in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains east of Yuba City (Fig. 6), and Overfelt Gardens Park in San Jose (Back Cover). "  This was from "A New Nothospecies and Two Cultivars for the Hybrids in Cultivation between Butia odorata and Jubaea chilensis" by Hodel 2011.

I passed by these palms before. I know for certain they reside in San Fernando Valley. I think in Reseda or really close by

Hesperia,Southern CA (High Desert area). Zone 8b

@Jubaea_James760yep you found it!  I saw "Topanga" on the Palmpedia page, but had no clue where to find it.  That's a great view of probably the largest BxJ on the planet:

Damnit! This is it! I could have sworn that I read that it was in San Diego.

Well, guess I'll go see all the giant Jubaea at the Hilton instead!
