Wickenburg is forecast to hit 28F next Tuesday.  Usually, my yard is 6-10F colder than the forecast temperature.

We will see how cold it gets!

l planted mostly things that should do fine in 8b plus some things that should survive a big freeze so I don't expect major losses.

Who knows though!

Here we go!  9:00PM and 34F in my yard.  Here is a snip from Weather Underground (the whole town is very small).  I am located near the right of this capture near the Hassayampa River.  Has been cold and raining for three days, but now the clouds have cleared and the atmosphere is clear to radiate all the available heat up and away from my palms! lol

CRAZY scenario painted by Euro run for morning of Dec 23.  Upper 20s for LA and upper teens for Phoenix? No way.

25F low and the sun is beginning to rise.  I may drop another degree before temps start rising, but I should pretty much be at the bottom.  I don't really expect any damage in the yard but will see later!

25F is where we hit bottom, with HEAVY frost from all the rain the last few days.

Only possible damage I expect is leaf drop on Guaiacum coulteri.

It might.. ( Forecast still locked on 30F here ) Keep in mind that our frost /freezes are usually brief.. ...usually limited to the coldest readings occurring right around Sunrise.. In a typical cold event anyway.. Longer duration ones are less common.   If it is dry, you might not see any frost and it will need to get colder than 30F to see any damage besides a few burnt leaves, tenderest of growth on tender plants... That said, because it "rained" a day ago, still lots of moisture in the air, which can allow frost to form at slightly higher temps.

So far, looks like your typical, "happens at least once every winter" event..  As laid out in the " S.W. U.S. / CA. winter 22/23 " thread, pretty uniform temperatures across a wide area, which is a little uncommon ( though not rare )..  and -surprisingly,  warmer in some normally cooler locations here in the Southwest ( ST. George, UT / ALBQ, N.M specifically ), ...compared to what can happen in those areas when we're experiencing mid /low 30s where i'm located.

Cold yes,  but, 🤞, if 17F ( Just above 8b ) is the coldest you get, the rest of this winter, that's not bad.. Seeing possible 50s / lows above freezing in the forecast after next Saturday?..
