I have many photos of my fav fan palm but I've decided to resubmit this one from two years ago with my son Joe.

By the way, the Corypha is a very close second.

Mine is only half the size of yours, Bo. But, growing rapidly. It has doubled the size since I planted it in Oct last year. Can't complain, really. Too shy to post, sorry. Nothing to see, yet.

I expected the Bismarckia, the Corypha and the Pritchardia to get lots of votes, but the palm that had me smitten is unlikely to be a popular choice, but after this photo I took at the Palmetum of Santa Cruz, Tenerife, it had to get my vote.

Tim do you consider your area 9a like it shows on the hardiness map or are you warmer? Ive been interested in trying a bizzy in my area which on the map is 8b but being surrounded by water I think my area is closer to 9a. Im going to place thermometers around my yard this winter to see how cold it gets, I think my biggest problem is frost though. Thanks James

Bismarckia nobillis, silver phase, is the most awe inspiring fan of them all, I have (4).  But, I'd rather have a diverse polulation including sabals, chamaerops nanhorrops, I'll take as many as I can grow here.

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??

I'd like to add that someone from socal on this board had a brahea clara that I would put a VERY close second to the bismarckia, the clara is such an elegant palm, especially with the inflorencence.  If I could get one of those .....

I picked C.umbraculifera which blows you away when you see it in person. That palm makes a statement! Bismarckia was a close second...

Thrinax morrissii is still my favorite fan - love that green and white.  My other favorite, T. excelsa isn't on the list or it might have been impossible to choose!

Licuala grandis is a close second favorite though.

Here's a (really bad!) pic of my morrissii.  The better pics were on the hard drive that died.

Licuala grandis IS a beautiful palm, however I do have a certain fondness for the Livistona species.

L. decora, mariae/rigida, fulva, and nitida are all great too :D

Tim - your bizzie is gorgeous.  Are those mules by it?  That's a really nice contrast, the deep green by the silver bizzie.  Very nice photos, too!

Hey, did you all get the flooding rains that hit Jax today?  Sheesh, I couldn't believe it - like 8" on the beach.

Brian - nice pic of the L. grandis, wow.

While I like several on the list, my favorite fan palm was not there.  I have 2 bismarcks, a few livistonas, a pritchardia, and a few thrinaxes, my favorite is Schippia concolor.  Not many people have it but mine is truly lovely and my favorite fan palm.
