This Monstera has been growing for me for 25 years now. It started setting fruits very soon , after 6/7 years in the ground if I don´t remember badly.

I have meant to, but I haven't ever, even though I've read it is edible and used along with salads, etc.

I'm a bit reluctant to taste new things I don't know. Better be on the safe side.

Be careful, do wait for for very ripe fruit, then it will be delicious. If unripe the fruit will be irritant and painful

:greenthumb::greenthumb:    The experience of biting into one that is unripe is ...Like 100,000 tiny serrated-edged swords dipped in Bleach, and hot Pepper juice, ...after being heated in a fire..  Stabbing the inside of your mouth and throat,  at the same time kinda' feeling, lol..    Not the most pleasant of experiences for sure..

Yes, one of the reasons I haven't gotten around to trying it, was heeding this same warning.  Either I'm too early or forget about them until I can smell the sweet aroma of the decaying fruit on the ground.

The sweetest kernels on a cob i have ever eaten.  My wife brought this into the house a couple of weeks ago after it either fell or was knocked off the plant by one of our dogs.   I dropped it into a brown paper bag to ripen and the external green scales peeled off easily this morning.
