I have about 180 seeds from a Syagrus coronata that I started from seed about 20 years ago.  It is located in Oviedo, FL, and is really quite a beautiful palm.  It's a beast!!  Shipping is $5 because of the size of the seeds.  I cleaned the fruit off, but there's still a bunch of fiber.

$15/25, $25/50, $40/100, $60/ALL 180

I have fresh Trachycarpus ukhrulensis (Manipur) seeds in stock in limited quantities.

$15/25, $25/50, $40/100.

Maximum order of 100 seeds, as I know there is some demand and I don't want one person buying them all.

You're not kidding, it's a beauty!  I've got a couple of seedlings that are almost ready to go in the ground and hope they grow up like that!  How much slower are these compared with S. romanzoffiana?  Are their water needs similar?

I actually think that this is a hybrid.  I collected a massive inflorescence from it last weekend to collect pollen, and there isn't any.  It's possible that the seeds that formed are the result of Queen pollen.  This palm is about 15-20 years old, and gets plenty of irrigation and fertilizer.

So just to clarify, do you believe that your palm is a hybrid? What would that make the seeds that you sold? Thanks

He believes it’s a hybrid but not sure exactly what it is?

Yes, so here's the history of this palm:  I collected the seeds from the ground under an infructescence on a palm that I remember to be labeled as a Syagrus coronata at Leu Gardens.  This was in the very early 2000s.  I germinated a few of them, and gave this one to a family friend.  She has it growing in Oviedo, FL.  Fast-forward to the present, and she is still a family friend and has the palm.  She sent me seeds, and I wanted an inflorescence for pollen to try a hybrid cross with a cool, local Butia with spiraling leaf bases also.  But after close to a week now, I have observed no more than a few pollen grains in one male flower.  This is after exposing it to 110F heat for several hours on 3 different days.  When I looked at the pictures, it's clear that the inflorescences all emerge very warped and the branches all bunched together and twisted.  I only saw a few seeds on the latest inflorescence.  So it obviously does produce seed, but it's unclear to me where the pollen is coming from.  It's a fairly vanilla neighborhood that it's in, with some Queens and whatnot down the street a ways, but I haven't scouted the area that well to see what else could be pollinating it.  So I'm just really speculating as to what it is and what the seeds could be.  I don't know, LOL.  Hope that helps!

My apologies to those who I sold seeds to from what I thought was a Syagrus coronata!  It turns out that the seeds are woody blanks with not even any endosperm in them.  I think I messaged everyone who ordered seeds.  Thanks for your understanding!  If I had known it was a hybrid, I would have checked the seeds before offering them.

In case anyone else was wondering, the Trachycarpus ukhrulensis seeds were imported from India and habitat collected from the same people who originally introduced it through people in Germany.

You talked me into, I’ll take 25. Trachycarpus are a little too common in Austin, but this one is unique enough I like it.

Trachycarpus Fortunei Tesan was not cold hardy for me.  I had six young strap leaf seedlings individually planted in tall planters in an attached garage with windows with heated rooms above and at the end of the garage.  Five of the Tesans died, one was badly burned.  All the garden variety Fortunei seedlings were fine under the same conditions.

What size do you want?  I actually have some 3 gallon Sabal palmettos that are Sabal 'Lisa' rejects that I would like to sell.

I wonder if anyone has grown up one of these 'Lisa' rejects and got any seedlings from it that had 'Lisa' traits?  :)

Good question!  I had a couple of them that looked like Lisa for years…until this year.  The last one that I thought surely would be a Lisa just put out a split leaf.  Oh well.

Yes, seems like everyone who posts here attempting to grow 'Lisa' only keep the ones with the potential 'Lisa' traits and give away the others which potentially still have the 'Lisa' genes!  Not an experiment that gives a fast result but would be interesting to know and will likely go unanswered in my lifetime!

Well, if I can't sell these, I'll find a public place to guerilla plant these and I'll let you know, LOL.

I have a really nice big piece of property you can guerilla plant them.. I'll send the address, just come by anytime, even in the day time the owners don't mind!  They may even pay you in beer.

LOL!  I know you do, Tom.  You mean you don't have enough Sabals yet?  I'll pass on the beer, but take you up on an iced tea!

Do you have photos of any palmettos that did exhibit the lisa trait that you've grown? I'd love to see them if possible. I found some mislabeled ones I've germinated years ago from Meg that are just now starting to show traits, but they're all still too small to know for sure.

I was looking through my phone pics and I don’t have any.  I only had 3 turn into Lisa from this particular palm here in Gainesville out of 15 palms, so I won’t bother with it again or sell seeds from it.

Ok, just a quick update with seeds that I am OUT of:

Gaussia gomez-pompae

Dypsis lanceolata

Quararibea funebris

I think I have 25-30 seeds left of Trachycarpus ukhrulensis.

10 seeds left of Coccothrinax crinita subsp. brevicrinis

I should have some interesting seeds in a few weeks, but not promising anything.

Frank thank you, this is my 3rd or 4th time trying to get R hystrix to germinate.  And my first success.

YES!!!

That's awesome, Jesse!  I have some sprouting right now as well, 10 1/2 weeks after sowing.  I'm super happy to see you have success with those!

I would use a well-draining mix, keep evenly moist but not wet, and as I remember, no bottom heat is needed.  In fact, they germinate in fairly cool conditions.  But it's been over 15 years since I sprouted any, LOL.  As i recall, however, they're pretty easy.  I used the baggie method with sphagnum/perlite back then.

Good deal, I put a half dozen or so just in some deep stu and son deep pots to see how they do, thinking the natural day/night cycle might get things going. I don’t seem to have wonderful success sprouting seeds.

thank you.
