I wonder if someone can help me calculate a Canary Palms Canopy?

The palm is 12' to the lowest good frond. Its 10' to the lowest cut frond.

Tip to tip is 24'

Circumference is 75" which I believe gives it a 24" diameter.

I cant help with any math questions not my strong suit 🙂 

I was able to get some fairly close canopy dimensions of some Royal Palms near me by using the measuring tool on Google Earth. Its not down to the inch but you should be able to get down to within a foot. Hope that helps.

Just use the “large palm - 450sq feet”, for fertilizer calculations.  It doesn’t have to be a bullseye.  It’s just to get you on paper.  From there you can tweak it over time based on the response you get.

Area of a circle is radius squared X 3.14.

Tip to tip is 24’ so the radius is 12’.

12x12x3.14=452

So @Looking Glassis right on the money.

For Palmgain, I think the formula recommended by the UFL guys is 1.5lb of 8-2-12 for every 100sqft of canopy.  The 450sqft calculated above means 1.5 * 450 / 100 = 6.75lb.  Personally that seems like an awful lot of fertilizer for a single palm.  I'd probably do half that much and fertilize more often.

Maybe the calculation is for Florida, with sandy soil.
