Phionix date palm frond disease?

Recommended Posts

Hi there folks, i havent been on here for a while but thanks to all who gave me great advice.

I have some strange marks on my phionix date palm of 10 years, its just had some hard frost for about two weeks here up in north of england uk just before christmas. It was already under transplant shock from planting in the september 2022 then i moved it again in about mid november as i had put it in a wet area, my bad choice! Its still green in the middle spears but im seeing this black marking hard stuff on the fronds now. I have let it open now from having it tied up from the attached photos to get some son. Any help or advice would be great, im just hoping some warmer weather and the longer days will help.

Thanks in advance

Ken

Not sure what that is, could be some sort of mold or fungus. I would apply copper fungicide to that.

Was the browning of the fronds caused by cold or were they killed before the cold hit? Is the palm showing any visible growth?

Hi there, well it did suffer a bit of transplant shock but then when i planted it in a wet area (dident know the ground held so much water as it was a new build house we had just moved into untill the great british weather kicked in!) I noticed the brown tips where getting browner and further down nearer the frond so thats when i thought, its coming out or im gonna loose it! Sure enough the roots where water logged so mixed in some fresh jon inns no3 and sat him up out on dop of the grass with some good drainage added beneath. Then we had two week of between -5 and 0 just before christmas so just thinking its had a hard time and meby needs some time to dry out a tad and some sun but just curiouse about these blackish bumpy bits appearing? Is copper fungiside worth a go then you think, it wouldent hurt the palm either way would it?
