In the far West of Cuba, close to the seaside town of Cortés lies a sandy savanna habitat that is home to 3 native palm species: Copernicia glabrescens var. glabrescens, Coccothrinax acuminata, and Acoelorrhaphe wrightii, commonly known as the Paurotis Palm, or in the USA, the Everglades Palm. But what distinguishes these Paurotis Palms, is that unlike those commonly found throughout the Caribbean, there is also a blue leaved form, which only grows in this area.

I especially like the pre-revolutionary song by Cuban icon, Celia Cruz, singing an ode to "being under the palm trees" of that province (Pinar del Rio) where this was filmed - where she says that this is the place where her mother was from.

I'm glad you appreciated the song, a lot of planning goes into these videos, including the music choices.

You can actually find old Salsa / Son songs where they sing sentimentally about the palm trees in just about any part of Cuba, but many of those songs are mediocre. This song also happens to be one of the greatest Cuban songs ever so it ticks all the boxes.

A single trunk Acoelorrhaphe wrightii. Do you ever see ones like this in Florida or anywhere else? I also feel like the trunk is thicker and the overall crown is wider. Not to mention the color, though this one is not one of the most blue ones we saw, its still not as dark green as the ones we see in Florida.
