No visit to this section of South Mountain is complete w/ out a check in with my favorite Desert Elephants, and assorted, spiny things..

While it's been awhile since my last appearance here, things look good for the most part.. Drier than i'd thought considering the rain we'd had earlier in the winter, but.. otherwise the same..

Bursera microphylla, South Mountain population.. AKA: "Desert Elephants"..

...."Nipples in the Brush"....  ( Mammillaria ) Though they often try their best to hide, getting pretty good at spotting these little stinkers on hillsides from a distance ...Either G's ( ..M. grahamii )  ...and / or T's  ( ...Mammillaria tetrancistra  ) since both sp. grow here.   Took roughly half of the shots from a distance since some of the densest colonies were growing on slopes that are pretty difficult to safely access.. Steep slope + loose rock a' plenty, above a steeply sided trail = not climbing it. Can get my "Nipple Fix" from a distance Lol.
