We’ve had some well ballyhooed rain out here, and with it, some wind, which broke off a nice fat and happy Roystonea borenquenia leaf at the petiole but left the sheath Thingie on the tree.

So maybe the weather whacked your palms? Show us!

Don't wanna jinx it cause there's more weather on the way, but we had some 40mph gusts recently (which is considered really windy for here) and luckily all the palms of interest came out unscathed. We had a couple buckled queen fronds which I always expect due to the stiffness of their petioles and really don't care too much about cause they're "just queens" to be brutally honest. Unfortunately for a family friend who lives nearby the newest frond on his Burretiokentia hapala buckled in half. The rain is great but the wind and cold temps that come with it can be a real bummer.

I've got an Archontophoenix with a broken leaf from our barely tropical storm force winds.  In western Cuba, which was seriously hit by the same hurricane, Ian, Pinar del Río province was looking fine early in February.   Royals everywhere.

I’ve been unscathed as of today Dave.  Sorry to hear of your damage but no surprise actually. 90% of your yard is 100ft up. ☝️

Some of my smaller Cunninghamianas have bent (broken?) fronds from the strong winds. Should I just cut these off or leave them? thanks

Whoa how weight was saved by the leaf base staying on the palm Dave?

Given that it was a new leaf about to open, I would probably leave it on for a while until it starts to turn brown.  That will likely occur pretty quickly, but you at least give the opportunity for the next spear to push out further before cutting this one off and potentially introducing an infection point for fungus of some sort.  If it were a lower leaf, I would have no hesitation to cut it off where it bent on a King palm.  They are a pretty hardy species for here.

I had plenty of leaves snap off in the last few days of wind, but they were lower leaves on tall Chrysalidocarpus pembanus (formerly Dypsis pembana).  It is a pretty regular occurrence for me when wind gust are in the 40's and sustained wind in the mid 30's.   Banana's all look beat up in the yard, as is my in ground Ficus dammaropsis with it's big leaves.  Hopefully after tonight's departing shot from this system, we will have milder wind and a little marine layer to keep temps from dropping too much overnight.  It looks pretty clear right now with a great view of Venus and Jupiter doing their dance.

I think it was just a big puff of wind
