Mule palm disaster

Hi people,

Just after a bit of advice for my mule palm after this winter I've had a total nightmare in terms of potential losses on my palms. I'm in the Uk (us zone 8b) and this is my mule palm now (picture). She's totally been wiped out and left with a huge cavity in the growing area, she's  being kept dry and little heat, and keeping humidity down (plastic I know) . Am I wasting my time? Shall give her the bullet and cry my eyes out haha.

Thanks

Chris

Probably dead.  What temp was it exposed to and what if any protection was given?  You need to cut down and see if you can find live tissue or spear (White).  Use a stick in hole to determine first cut

It's hollow for at least 300mm yes I think it's dead

That’s about a foot down for us Yankees, I’d cut starting about there.

I've just cut a good selection off, not as far as a foot but I'm sure I can see white deep down. 🤞🙏

How cold did it get?

Looking through the threads, it seems L.chinensisis is more cold-hardy. Mules seem good to about 18°F/-7.5°C, so the warm end of 8b. The parents come from hot summer areas, not to be overlooked.

I would cut until there isn't a hole. Definitely don't want an area for water to collect.
