Well this is what my King Palm looks like after its first winter. I put this palm in the ground a little late in the summer, around September. It went through a handful nights below freezing, which you can definitely see where the frost burnt some of the smaller fronds. Hopefully it will recover and I'll get some growth this summer.

It was a hard winter up here. Mine don't look very good, glad they made it through though. When the time is right, give lots of organic fertilizer and water them heavily.

Anthony, you show a queen palm in the shade, close to the house, and a king palm under an open sky.  These should be placed in the  reverse position,  king palms are a forest species and prefer to grow into higher light levels, whereas queens are better suited for full sun as smaller plants.   :)

The gazebo in the picture provides shade in the summer for the king palm. I think you are seeing the queen palms I have that are wine barrels. I moved them there just recently as we had some strong winds that actual broke some of the fronds. Thank you for the advice though.

I was about to write what Darold did. In hot inland areas it’s vital that King palms not be subjected to direct afternoon sun particularly during heat waves with low humidity levels. They just fry. That’s more damaging than the temps slightly below freezing. They grow much better against a house wall that is shaded in the summer. Closer to the coast and they do fine in the straight sun.

Yes, Kings and Kentia's (I know it's not the case here) should be underneath canopy.

Thanks again Jim. You have been a huge help with palms I have. Unfortunately my backyard gets sun pretty much all day so I have to use man-made structures to provide shade. I was considering place an even larger queen palm near the King to provide more shade.

Mulch around that King so it keeps the grass competition down and it will take off.

I have a king in full sun, and it’s doing really good. But when it was younger it did get some afternoon shade from the house. Now it’s mature so it’s been able to acclimate
