Hey All,

I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia- somewhere has summer all around

In my yard I have a palm tree where I had noticed rot on the trunk. The tree is somewhere around 8-12meters and the rot had gone from bottom to somewhere 3 meters high.

I touched the rotten bit- quite soft and contains a lot of moisture. Googled around, cannot see holes or worms or anything like that- grabbed a joint knife (spatula) and scrapped all the mouldy bits and treated it with a mixture of bleach and water (1 bleach 2 water). The result of those work (don't even know if I did the right thing but the trunk was looking good for about a week time)

2-3 weeks later, I had another look at the tree trunk- the rot is back again, slightly; and it will be the same like before.

in some articles says could due to the drainage of the soil- the tree had been in the same place for the last 20 years ... what changed?

I don't know what I can do at this stage- please help!

If it were lower I'd guess a sprinkler was hitting the trunk, but that initial "wound" looks like it's 10 feet up.  I remember another Australia post where the possums were chewing the trunk of a palm.  As far as the rot goes, it might be Thielaviopsis, if it's eating away the soft fibers and leaving the stringy stuff behind.  The "bleeding trunk" is a common symptom of that, and there's no known treatment.  I don't know if that's it, but it could be.
