Clintonia andrewsiana

During a hike in the redwood forest of NorCal I obtained several seeds, but none germinated.  I have spent a few hours with online search, and I have directly contacted several native plant nurseries.

No luck at all.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,   thanks!

Hi Darold,

You need to Cold Stratify the seeds first for a few weeks. Else they won't germinate. I've germinated these before. Keep them moist, not too much water cause they rot easily:

see here: http://palmvrienden.net/gblapalmeraie/2017/10/10/sequoia-sowing-instructions/

Yeah, Darold's trying to germinate Clintonia seed, not Sequoia or Redwood..

@Darold Petty have you contacted Telos Rare Bulbs? He might have some ideas on getting them going. PAC Bulb Society has a write up on germination for the Genus as well. Looks tricky from what i read.

Nathan, thanks for the link, Telos does not show this plant on their homepage, but I sent an email inquiry anyway .

:greenthumb:  I don't recall seeing it listed on his site either, but i know he grows many CA / western native Geophytes  and is heavily involved in the Pac. Bulb Society's overall website..  so if he isn't growing any atm for sale, he probably knows exactly who does.

Calscape lists a snippet regarding germinating andrewsiana toward the bottom of their info page for the species.. Appears seed needs 3 months of cold stratification, 3 of warm, then another 3 months of cold before they'll budge if viable.
