I am germinating some seeds of fishtail palms and have been anxiously awaiting for any sign of germination.

I dug up one batch and this is what I found on 2 seeds the other showed no sign of movement

What is this????  Is that a root?  sure doesn't look like it!!

Can someone enlighten me-- what am I doing wrong

Another view with where i think the actual root is suppose to pop out (that yellowish dot)

Or do they really pop out from the side?  but that sure doesn't look like a root

on the seed litself there is like a pin-sized hole where that wart sort of grew out from.

Should I consider seeds that turn out like this as goners?

thats the emerging root - it looks like a crusty nipple at first, then it develops into a longer, lighter-colored, more root-like ROOT

the one you amputated is a goner

I get by with a little help from my fronds

Dear Gene  :)

iam curious to know what method did you adopt in germination process.box type or baggie or just the potted type ?

And as daniel louis had said its gone.

this was quite a sceen in my germination in my initial days but once shifted to baggie no rot of seeds at all.if they keep quite for long it meant the seeds are not viable.

thanks for the stills,

love,

Kris.

love conquers all..
