Sorry, no palapa so I'll post here. :D

I've got these holes that are everywhere on my hillside.  I'm pretty sure that they're not gopher holes as they are only about the diameter of a nickel (3/4").  I've got a lot of stink bugs.  Could this be from them?

Oh, yeah, the Butt-up Beetle, common in California.  That stilty walk, Becky-look-at-her-butt!

It's out there!

I have no idea whether or not they have anything to do with the holes you describe . . .

Matt,

In our yard the holes that size are from the June Bug (or Green Japanese beetles) larva.

When I bought a Home Theater System for out house the technician said that one neat thing about subwoofers is that the frequent "booming " at those very low frequencies also scare off/disturb  termites.  So it prevents termite infestation in wooden homes.

I did mention that many portions of our house were wooden so this knucklehead might just be giving me small talk bullshit to help the sale --- but hey there may be some truth to it.

It sort of sound like an urban legend or somthing that you would ask the "Myth Busters" to tackle but does anyone out there know if there is any trut hto this?  And can it be applied outdoors  to affect other insects and hey maybe even gophers and other rodents?

Well, I think I found out what the holes are from.  Check it out:

I was digging a hole for a Coccothrinax and about 6 inches down this guy was just sitting there.  If the holes in my yard are scorpion holes I have thousands of them.  I'm not exagerating.

ONe way to see how many scropions (as opposed to Skorpions) you have is to get yourself a UV lamp and shine it around at night.

Scorpions flouresce under UV.  I did that once in a wilderness area and I was STUNNED at how many there are out there!  Most are very tiny.

I have heard that the Chinese like to fry them up on the table like fondue.  I guess they would be sort of shrimpy tasting.  Dave, maybe a UV flashlight would be a good accessory to have.  We get holes in the ground around here, but I never have had the urge to stick my finger down one.  Actually some types of ants we have around here live in similar holes.  Maybe your place has been infested with another great insect introduction from Brazil.
