If they survive, they would probably take on a lot of damage. The kind of damage that takes at least one growing season to mend. And by the time it does, another winter comes and clobbers it again probably killing it.

 

teddytn is correct. Protection will be a permanent fixture. I had a European Fan Palm that "survived" its first winter- looked like a plant that had been on Okinawa during WWII. The next winter did it in. Sabals and Needles do great here, but everything else is vulnerable. I have one Trachy that I will always protect.
