Potted Christmas Palm

Recommended Posts

My potted Christmas palm has been growing in this container for 3 years now.  The fronds consistently get yellow/brown spots that make the palm unattractive.  I fertilize every three months and water a couple times a week.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

It may be time for a bigger pot.  It could be root bound.

I agree. Most palms tolerate pots but aren’t super happy in them. Try a bigger pot with some fresh potting mix. If you can’t do that, you might consider flushing the pot/soil. You could have a buildup of salts in the soil.

I agree with the other people.  It looks like root issues.  A bigger pot, and a better draining mix.

What type of fertilizer should I be using since it's potted and how often

I use Palm Tone or Nutricote for potted palms. Nutricote is great because it’s time release. Palm Tone is all natural but it smells bad so I wouldn’t recommend it for your pool area.
