Hi! if anyone has any clue what this palm is? It’s fronds are softer than my trachycarpus.f and it’s got a slight blue powdery look, I got it cheap as a dying palm in garden centre (it said trachycarpus on it) the fronds were all cut off and only a little fresh growth but now I’m not sure what it is ? Any ideas guys?

Thankyou!  Is it normal to have a soft powder coating ? I have strong shiny fronds on my trachy fortunei these ones are soft and very bendy and already split? I might check out princeps and see if it’s that!

Abbi, not for this plant, but an easy distinction between Chamaerops and Trachycarpus is that Chamaerops has an armed (thorns ) petiole and Trachycarpus does not.  :)

Thanks Darold! When the fronds come out I’ll check the petiole! I’m feeling impatient 🙈 but that’s the fun and appreciation of palms 🤣 do you have any thoughts on what you think it could be? It’s the powder that’s making rethink

I agree with Gilles06, it is almost certainly Trachycarpus., from the look of the fibers.   Also, most all Chamaerops with this size of stem will show a few secondary shoots.

Trachycarpus is mostly a single trunk.   ( I believe that there is one suckering Trachycarpus ?? )

Amazing! Thankyou !! I’ll update when it’s grown abit more I might have a cool blue trachy 🤘 ! I only paid £10 and it’s a great size trunk 😱 I definitely got a bargain but that makes up for the ones that died this winter 😂
