Just went by Tallahassee, Florida and went by a nursery and bought a Mule palm. I was really looking for a Pindo palm but this will work as well hopefully. Does anyone know what type of slow release fertilizer is used here and in other pots? I never can find the green kind around these local stores. See last picture for the type of fertilizer I'm talking about.

Update for anyone else who wondered about this. I believe the green fertilizer to be made by a company in tampa, Florida and (if I’m right) it’s a product called POLYON by Harrell’s. It seems to be some sort of slow release petroleum plastic coated fertilizer. According to a product with the same name on eBay some of its 16-6-11. I believe a comparable product that’s more easily acquirable is Dynamite 18-6-8 that’s a 9 month slow release. It should suffice as a once-per-year fertilizer.

That looks like a pindo (butia) in my eyes… interesting to see how it develops.

Yep I thought so too. I read the difference is in the trunk color early on

It was only $60 so not too bad considering they don’t sell anything like it around where I live.

It is. And it’s managing with very little frond damage.

Correct the green round fertilizer is POLYON, but you should actually be using a PALM specific fertilizer such as the one developed and used by the University of Florida, Palm Gain.

I use an Organic Palm specific called Palm Tone with excellent results, but Polyon is general purpose nursery slow release fertilizer that will not be best suited long term for your Palm.

Also, Palms grow best with a fertilization in the Spring, Summer and Fall (3x per year) NOT once per year and no fertilizers are necessary during Winter as there is not much growth during that season.
