I didn't really think much of this stuff because the palm is growing so vigorously this year., but I was over at my neighbors and his is NOT doing as well and I saw this same black fungus looking stuff on his which got my radar moving in a bad direction.

Can anyone identify what this black stuff is and if it is of any real concern? Again my specimen is throwing a new gorgeous spear every 30 days, and looks great post winter freeze.

Wondering if this is just similar to the black fuzz that appears on Wodyetia?Image.thumb.jpeg.2b33999df87ead84237575c3061eed85.jpegImage.thumb.jpeg.3bb78922ef39cb01d56066e0b3b8ef80.jpeg

I think it is cold/cool damage from the winter. Just something those of us in colder areas have to accept if we want to grow these types of palms in marginal climates.

Alex palms are a local native to where I live and even the wild growing ones get this on them after a really cold spell or sometimes after a long period of humidity.  It annoys me at times because it looks so ghastly.  I get a damp rag and wipe it off.

Perfect so not really “dangerous” or otherwise worrisome - just annoying.

I can work with that
