Hi,

I need some Jamaican Tall Coconut sprouts from Central or South Central Florida shipped to me in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Thanks.

John,

Any reason they have to be sprouted? I think I may have found one not too far from my place that has coconuts that are beginning to turn brown. I’m not sure if its Jamaican tall  or not but it has a fairly large crown, is tall and has a wide base. I haven't been over there in a month or more so I would have to go over and check to see if there are some viable coconuts on the ground.

Hi Dean,

Sure, thanks.  I will take both sprouted and unsprouted nuts that are likely to be Jamaican Talls, which by the description of your parent tree, that is what it sounds like yours is.

John, surprisingly or maybe not these things are not just lying around all over the place out here 😄 I haven't forgot about you and I’m still looking.

The closest I can think that you'll reliably find them is Hutchinson Island.  Not Central FL, but a source.  There are a few old ones on the barrier islands near Wabasso, but those are on private property and inaccessible to the average seed hunter.

There are plenty of trees around here it just seems like Its rare to see fruit in public places anywhere, especially on the ground. There are quite a few CPs in the surrounding neighborhoods with plenty of coconuts but I’d need to go up to the door and ask if they have some to give.

There’s one nursery in south Florida that sells them. And not for a bad price for 3 gallons. but it’s appointment only. Hopefully this helps.

The current inventory only lists 15G unfortunately.

My Atlantic/Jamaican Talls, Maypan, and Panama Tall are from Calusa Palm Nursery.  When I buy from there, I usually just look at when they'll be at a show I'm going to and give Marc a buzz and ask for a specific palm to be brought to then sale.

I think John is specifically looking for ones growing here in their northern range that survived 2009/2010.
