A friend in the ‘hood has the specimen pictured below and would like to divide it, if possible. Is is it possible? (Yes yes he has thick leather gloves!)

Do the offset/pups root even if not rooted on removal? Any thought experiences, etc?

I have attempted in fairly a lazy manner (my suckers had little to no root when divided and I left them potted in a fairly exposed outdoor situation, no antifungal treatment), and I was unsuccessful. The pups stayed green for a while, then slowly dried up without forming roots.

Check out the above article. 👍

Article sounds about right. I've had similar results with the pups from Phoenix species. Maybe 1 in 5 will actually survive...

I've also failed in a couple of attempts but I believe it was due to talking suckers that were too small.  I was told by Joseph at Texas Cold Hardy Palms years ago that he was successful with suckers about the diameter of a 1-liter bottle and with roots attached.  Unfortunately suckers of that size are usually surrounded by dozens of prickly smaller suckers adding to the challenge!
