Jimson Weed (Datura wrightii)
https://www.desertusa.com/flowers/datura-jimson-weed.html
"The sacred datura blossom has long captivated artists and poets.  It appears in paintings by the famed artist Georgia O'Keefe.  It may have been the plant she had in mind when she said, 'When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment.'"

Weedy and very easy to grow, I remove the spent flowers before they develop their prickly seed pods. This one was a volunteer that popped up yards away from the original plant that I'd removed years ago.

Some freak out when they see it growing. Most respect -and greatly admire-  it..

Is one of the toughest warm season  Natives one can grow  in the West / Southwest..  Given some water, it can get huge, but otherwise always looks great, especially at a time when a lot of things might be taking a break.  ..And requires little to no maintenance.

Walking out a door on a hot / humid evening / morning to the scent of a dozen or more open flowers, is the essence of Summer..  Great companion to grow below or near Plumeria too since it is a Sphinx Moth magnet, Sphinx pollinate both plants.  Will also help keep Sphinx caterpillars off valued Veggies like Tomatoes, Peppers, and Eggplant.

Obviously, because it is quite toxic, ..maybe don't plant where pets or young kids might access them.

Starting from seed = May - September..  Ground has to be warm to get the seed to germinate..  Plants can be planted thru October.

Here at least, seedlings were a touch slow at first, but took off once it got hot / humid..

Valley carpenter bees (Xylocopa sp.) find Jimson Weed (Datura wrightii ) quite irresistible. I've watched as a half dozen of them crowd into one flower. This plant overwintered and regrew this spring.
