I wanted to post this before I remove it. I was about to dig until I noticed slight purple on the base. This has the silver undersides but is missing the ramenta. The leaflets do not seem to be as tight as other purpureas I have seen. Thanks

I’d say possibly. Purpurea color is subtle at a young age and many plants solid could be hybrids with other Archontophoenix. As it gets older if it continues to develop more color and produces very large seeds you’ll have a better picture.

Thanks James, goal was to yank it before it gets a big footprint. I'll see what others say and then make a decision. Thanks for your input!

Thanks Will, I think I'll keep it a little longer to see what it turns out to be. Possibly a hybrid due to no ramenta, leaflets not that tight an upright as seen on others and the rate of growth seems fast as I read they are on the slow side.

No ramenta on a palm that size basically rules out pure A purpurea. I have to say though that the crownshaft colouration does look a bit like purpurea so maybe it’s a hybrid.

Thanks Tim, for the hope of hybrid. Might keep it to see if coloration gets more pronounced.

Thanks Dale! We need to go on a mission again in search. Limited on space but may squeeze a real one in someday if I come across one. 🤣

Hard to tell early in life, but these things hate direct sun but love water.  My experience is they look more pale in direct sun even when the color arrives after trunking.  They are  tough palm to keep really happy here in florida but a few layers of canopy can get you to that light purple color.   I'll bet they are areas in austrailia where a stand of them are aglow in that nice light purple.  Maybe out there in california they do better with the color in sun, I'd ask some of your locals how they work for them before you place another one.

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??

Thanks Tom, I have this thing in pretty much full sun 🤦‍♂️. I haven't really seen any in person since recently, but the ones I have seen are in shade. Hopefully they do show the color more in sun for me. Maybe since it's a hybrid it might act differently🤞time will tell.

After reading all the comments Your palm is likely  a hybrid  if theres no ramenta but not  a cunninghamiana cross, i'm guessing.

I was wondering the same thing about my one that looks be a similar size. So i had a look at the under sides and some ramenta is present ,also, There is no purple showing on the trunk... yet .

That will be an interesting palm when it gets bigger but i would try to find a legit Purpurea to grow.

Yes Cody I will definitely try to find a legit purpurea just in case this one turns out to be a dud. Yours seems right, silver with ramenta 👍🏼. Hope it shows off its color soon. Thank you for sharing!

That's not unusual here.

Mine growing in the shade have the purple much lighter than those growing with nearly all day sun exposure.

Located on Vanua Levu near Savusavu (16degrees South) Elevation from sealevel to 30meters with average annual rainfall of 2800mm (110in) with temperature from 18 to 34C (65 to 92F).

Hope that's the case in my situation. Does anyone have a hybrid purpurea that doesn't have ramenta on here please show pics? Thank Jim
