Nice tropical palm trees that can grow in water or in swampy areas.

Hey, I want to have in my African cichlids aquarium some tropical palm trees I already have a chamadorea elegans and I want to get a lipstick palm or some seeds. Which tropical palmtrees that look nice when they ate young can live in a pot partially submerged in water? The water is normally at 25 degrees Celsius.

Do you have a lot of vertical space between your tank and the light?  I  think Ravenea rivularis is good bet. Until the winter claimed mine I would give it 1-2 gallons a day in a plastic pot with a plugged drain.

A few young Sabal minors were also put to the test in waterlogged pots without drainage for >1 year before I moved them up. Growth was slow so they would probably look great for a long time.

Maybe Chamaedorea cataractarum?

I’ve been wanting to try any one of those in my 65gal for a while now but I’m afraid the room doesn't receive enough light. I’m sure there are more candidates but  I’ve considered these because they are common and cheaply available in my area. Im interested to hear how it goes!

I have a similar situation but only on a bigger scale the position is extremely sunny and hot in summer winter temperatures around 7degrees lows

I have a lipstick palm growing in a cement pot sitting in a water lily pond.  Been there for about 20 years.  It's stunted only about 3' tall.

L.  grandis will grow in perpetually wet mud. It's worth trying.

Just sharing mine for fun. Filler plants would help balance a palm tree.

The plumeria is just in a pot behind the tank, but I have a Chamaedorea Elegans, spider plant, Hawaiian Ti, Fuitonia, and Monstera Deliciosa. I'm using 2 40w grow lights. I hadn't considered a lipstick palm, but... It's a pretty cool idea!

Thank you so much for the reply! Your tank looks very nice, all of your plants are looking healthy. The plumeria that you have has ever flowered? I've want to get plumeria soon.

It hasn't flowered yet, but I think it will. I've seen a video where someone in Sweden was growing them under grow lights and they were flowering.

Some Aussie ones from Northern Australia ( so very 'tropical' )
Carpentaria acuminata and Livistona benthamii will grow with wet feet.... and are native to riparian spring fed dry season spring creek lines and wet season swamp areas.
Hydriastele wendlandiana, the local Florence falls Palm ( rare in cutivation ) also fits the parameters as does the Black Jungle palm, Ptychosperma bleeseri ( recently re classified as a Ptychosperma macarthurii  subspecies )— MacArthur Palm, Darwin Palm.
Of course there is also Nypa fruticans, commonly known as the nipa palm or mangrove palm, common in tidal mangrove regions in S E Asia....also a few isolated habitats in Northern Australia and growing in cultivation in the Botanical Gardens in Darwin.
Carpentaria and Macarther palm seedlings sprout in my my ponds.... I'm forever culling the weedy things.... lol !
