Wodyetia bifurcata - Spears Opening Early

Does anyone have any idea why my foxtail is opening the new fronds before they even come out of the shaft?  It used to send up spears that would open but now it seems ..... stuck?  It is growing in a pot and I would love to be able to put it in the ground, but that's not possible until I move.   Any suggestions?

Did it get exposed to any chill this winter?

All of my Trachy's are doing the same thing, and they are a cold hardy palm tree. I don't think cold might be the issue, A nutrient issue maybe? I have tired everything and still , My windmill has only opened up a Frond so far this summer :(

If a palm is grown in shady, cold, or lower light conditions they can become "etoliated," or stretched out.  Sometimes if you then put them in full sun they next fronds grow out smaller than the last ones.  There may be something else going on, but light/heat/water changes is a possibility.

Thanks.  I'm going to move it where it will get more direct sun for longer and see what happens.  Fingers crossed!

My first thought is it could be in response to overfertilizing. I have noticed that some palms respond to overfertilizing by opening prematurely. A more nefarious possibility is some kind of infestation causing a reaction. Check closely for unwanted pests.
