Pre Tour Tour of Two awesome San Diego Gardens

DoomsDave

Recommended Posts

The PSSC is having a garden tour at two cool gardens in San Diego in September 16 (edited), 2023 @ellidro; and one in Encinitas the other in the city proper @Matt in SD.

Here’s me next to Matt’s Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis) “Big Red”; it’s almost as fat as me! And a lot purtier!

But don’t take my word - come see for yourselves!

@DoomsDave- September 16 or 23rd?

I’m really hoping it’s the 23rd as listed above, since I *might* be able to make that one happen… but it was listed as the 16th in another post, which sadly conflicts with a “mom and me” sleepaway camp I’ve committed to attend with my daughter. Hoping the date was changed to the 23rd, but if not please post LOTS of photos/videos. 🤞

Yeah, @DoomsDave needs to clarify for sure. I’ve heard both so I’m confused too. This is going to be one of those meetings everybody needs to attend and will surely regret it if they are unable. No excuses people!! 😂

Let us know Dave. Thanks.

The real drawback for you in Texas is that P. torallyi prefer mild or cool summer climate without extremes. Winter might not kill one in your area but summer most likely would.

I'm guessing that the last 3 months being above 106F wouldn't be conducive for any mild climate species to survive.

Just A few amazing morsels to drool over before seeing them in person at Nick’s Garden. Before the September 16th PSSC meeting.  Look how big the Ovo. is to the left. Not to mention that crazy Dypsis albofarinosa lurking in the back

MattyB and Matt P.... but both are master gardeners among their other traits.  Both gardens for this upcoming meeting, Nick's in Encinitas and Matt P's in University City, are clearly outstanding and worth a drive to see some zone pushing plantings for Southern California.  Looking forward to visiting the parents of my Meryta balansae again in Matt P's UC garden.
