Odd Bismarck Palm Issue

Recommended Posts

I recently planted a 25 gallon Bismarck palm and shortly after planting I am noticing a weird black tar like substance coming out of the ends of the fronds. I have googled and nothing looks like what this is. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Not like anything I’ve ever witnessed. Are you sure it’s emanating from the frond tip versus something that dropped onto it?

I think your suggestion is the likely cause. Like creosote from an overhead power pole that melted from hot sunshine, dripped down, and the wind cast it to the leaf tips. I only see it on a couple leaf tips, so it's unlikely to be oozing out of the leaf in question.

Interesting! That is exactly what it looks like, it is just puzzling because it is not around any power lines where I have it planted. But maybe it was like that when I bought it and didn't notice.
