I have radicalis everywhere and this sprout showed up a couple years ago. I assumed it was radicalis when it was small. I was just out here relaxing with a soda and I realized, "hey, wait a minute, that's a plumosa!" The different direction leaflets were a giveaway. Strange, and lucky!

I tried seeds of plumosa several years ago and nothing sprouted. I dumped out the medium and I guess this must have sprouted; but it was like 5 years ago that I did all of that! Anyone else come across these unexpected surprises?

There's three chams in this messy picture. Tepejilote in the back, radicalis in the front and then the plumosa in the very front.

Cheers!

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

A few years ago I started out with about 40 Jubaea seeds from a blue one in CA.  I tried some in baggies, some in community pots.  I tried cracking the seeds and left the majority of them alone.  I managed to germinate one uncracked seed in a baggie and germinated another that I cracked.  2 out of 38.  Then I planted one outside in the flower bed and another outside in a large container.  Both outside seeds germinated!  100%!  :)  Go figure.
