My chamaedorea adscedans are flowering again so time to arrange a special date night (or day) i Keep the pollen in the fridge and daily for a weeks visit the females and dust them with the pollen I had good success last seasons the seeds were sent to a company in another country and were for sale on the internet I was pretty happy knowing my garden seeds were going around the world to be grown on 😁

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Thanks for the inspirational how to photos and reminder that I should try this.

I do have both sexes of several Chamaedoreas.

I really want my C. tuerckheimiis to fruit as I planted them in an awkward place for viewing (and would love lots more too), but am afraid to move them.

Hi Cindy yes a great way of doing pollinating the only way i would do different is perhaps a paper bag not plastic but a very easy technique I also use a small artist brush on monoecious palms my small chuniphoenix nana with great success helping the insects out you just have to monitor your plant’s daily for the signs of receptivity but a wonderful way to propagate plants good luck with your chamadorea tuerckheimiis the holy of chameadorea palms

Ps Cindy cover your seeds up with something otherwise the animals or rat’s will get them I have that problem at first but soon realised the situation after losing valuable seeds and having to wait another season

All good, thanks. I'm happy with the one I have now, it is what it is. Cool male flowers, though...

Mr. Dick Douglas and I had a conversation about this years ago; and if there's one guy who knew a thing or two about pollinating them, it's him. Here is the link to that thread:

Thanks so much Patrick! I missed those posts before but have saved the topic now so it will be handy when needed!

I enjoy pollinating vanilla orchid flowers, but for some reason have never tried assisting palms.
