Hey all!

So this spear looks ready to pop but is there anything I can do to help it along? I’m new to the species so this spear tip is an unfamiliar shape to me

thanks y’all!

Patience Grasshopper!

It’ll open soon. Good news is that shorter daylight usually means longer red time. In my experience anyway.

The plant will pop the spear when it is ready to.  Just water normally and hang in the there and yes as Dave says, good time of year to pop a spear as the red will persist longer..

Mine opened very fast overnight so that may happen too, but if you try to "help" you can damage it easily.   It looks very nice I bet it will be spectacular in a short time.

What @DoomsDave said…..you gotta wait. I’ve had Chambeyronia spears look like they were ready for weeks on end before THEY decided they were ready. Patience, then more patience.

I had a store-bought Bottle with a "stuck" fused tip on a spear, and I had to help it open up.  But on that one it was clear the middle of the spear was split open normally and trying to expand, and was just being restricted by the last inch at the tip.  There's a little bit of tip distortion/weaviness in the first photo, so it *might* eventually need a little help.  I'd leave it alone.  If the middle of the spear splits open and is expanding....then maybe give the tip a little bit of encouragement.
