Banana problems

Hosta will yellow before dying down for winter dormancy. Are they hardy there or do you have to mulch heavily?

Your Musa is fine. All the leaves will have to be cut off before winter. What are your plans for them?

Can I get an explanation for all this because the bananas seem to be yellowing from this. Alocasia also have it. Is this cold damage?

Maybe the soil is too cool so the plant's metabolism is slowing down. Many people think air temps affect growth; they don't. Cold air may quickly kill a plant but actual growth is more dependent upon soil temps.

The spots are from cold damage...I am not sure those are big

enough to come back if they are Basjoo....or any kind really.

Some kinds of nanars show this damage with lows in the 50s some with

40s and all do with 30s.....here the Kokopo Patupi banana look the worst followed

by some Pisang Keling on the south side of the house.

Folks down this way dig them up, with a root ball, and lay them down in a crawl space. You could try storing your tallest one in your basement and replanting it next year.

the basjoo is the less affected one and the smaller one, the other one is acuminata which i will take out, but basjoo i will leave in and heavily mulch, will also use chicken wire and fill it with leaves, the banana will come back im hoping since allen said it will survive.

Are these bananas pictured supposed to be basjoo?  Musa basjoo has a winged petiole and new pups have a slightly reddish center vein.  This may explain their cold sensitivity.  This also needs to be moved to the tropical forum.  Alocasia are more cold sensitive as well.

The acuminata has a little deformity in the new leaf but temperatures are to massively increase with upper 50s and 60s at night for next two weeks with only two days in 40s, even the monstera handled it better. Ignore the yellow leaves and deformity it’s pot is way too small so I’m reporting it.
