How cold water can a Majesty withstand?

If I where to plant a Majesty by the side of a river and the water level goes a little up in the winter so it is standing in water for a few months. What would be the minimum water temprature needed? I think the river is around 20 celcius in winter

Well I do not have direct experience with them in water but they easily take down to well below 0 celcius as outdoor potted specimens under house eaves (no frost hitting them, just low temps). Please try and report back.

I would not plant them in an area that is constantly under water. I’m thinking these are periodically flooded, probably during the warm season wet/dry tropic kinda setup. Palmpedia didn’t say much about the climatology where they are native but I’m pretty sure I’ve read before somewhere these do experience a dry season and are not continually flooded. Maybe someone knows better on here. I would say given how mine have taken my neighbors running irrigation hitting them in the 34 to 35 F range all night plenty of times without too much issue, they can take 20C water but I would only plant them near that water source, maybe at a common warm season short term flood level.

They don’t like being flooded during winter. Plant them about a foot higher than the highest water line that they will see in winter. Summer is fine as already stated they like a cool weather dry season not the other way round. I’m going to be transplanting 2 of mine that are too wet in winter.

I can only speak from my experience growing 3 of these in San Diego. When I first moved into my house there, I had 3 five gallon size majesty palms, but I wasn't sure where I should plant them. After being there a few months I finally decided. My next door neighbor whose yard was 4' higher than mine (on a hillside lot) was over watering her yard every 2-3 days. The excess water would spill into my backyard, and flood the area with 4-6" of water. Since I knew from various sources that majesty palms can often be found growing in standing water near rivers, I made my decision of where I should plant them. During the 10 years after I planted these 3, they grew to be about 5 times larger under these conditions. The leaves and trunks looked great.
