The chain stores are selling rare palms but for that amount of money $215 Australian dollars I would rather buy a nice red Areca for that  sort of money anyday

Ghastly horrible thing and what a price too. I saw a place online last week that was selling purple crownshaft alexanders, $399 for one just over a metre high !! They had 'large' sized house plants too, starting at $1,500.  I have trouble getting $5.00 out of people for a waist high alocasia !  I often see 'rare' plants for outrageous prices in the hundreds of dollars. I always think if they are so rare how come so many people have them for sale ?

Chain stores what can you say there should be a shipping container out the front of there shops so we can take the rubbish back and send it straight back to where it come from if I could get the prices they put on those plants in chain stores i would be a millionaire I only buy my top dollar plants from reputable sellers oh if rosebud farm was still with us Rich must be rolling over as they say buyer beware on plants 🌱

Rosebud Farm and Rob's Rare Palms are very much missed by me. I used to scan the monthly list and find things I had only ever seen photos of.  I knew that they would arrive in huge long boxes and would be strong and healthy too. I would say 80% of my palms and Cycads came from Rich and I never would have had any of them at the prices Nurseries and chainstores charge.

I think that it was purchased at Big Lots. A budget, overstock retailer.

Hello Australian palm collectors.

The price of palms will hete will rise dramatically from now on due to the cost and difficulty getting seed into the country now.

Unless there is fruiting species in Australia which will keep the prices down get used to higher prices.

Example

Recently imported some rare seed, cost of phyto certificates, seed inspection on arrival added up to 4.50 per seed.

Say 25 % seed germination.

Each seedling owes $18 before paying for the seed!!!!

Say seed is $5 per seed,

Each seedling $20

Therefore each seedling owes 38 aud befor paying for potting mix and a pot to put it in.

Labour costs, fuel etc to go on top.

All rare seed has gone up a lot.

Unfortunately this seems to be the new normal.

Regards

Colin

Very true the cost of imported seeds and availability certainly has changed the domestic market for palm seeds and the cost of each seedling unless local seed can be produced
