aerial roots Chameadorea metallica

I am growing Chameadorea metallica's for many years now, but today I noticed that the two lower leafs were being pushed off the stem of the palm. When I pulled those two leaves off, I saw some aerial roots coming from the stem. Has anyone seen this "behavior" before?

I have seen this behavior particularly on taller Chamaedoreas. I’m not sure why they do this, my guess is that they would grow to the ground and stabilize itself better.

Wimmie, if your palm becomes too tall for its location then it can be air-layered and reduced in height.  I used a device called  https://rooterpot.com/index.html

My plant was more than 2 meters tall,  I left the device in place for about 6 months.  Then I severed the top 60 cm and replanted it.

  C. metallica is one of the few palms that can be treated this way.
