Here’s my big Syagrus p out in front of my place in the glorious sunshine of late fall. Looks a lot like a queen palm, but pale trunk, thicker leaves just gorgeous reminds me of my misspent yute

Show us yours or similar Syagrus!

I have my little baby picrophylla. I’m excited. How is the growing rate?

I am wondering why I have never heard of this one before.  S romanzoffiana is a declared weed now where I live so this would make a nice replacement.

This is hilarious here in South Texas they keep getting killed by cold snaps and people are still replanting them again and again because Queens can work here for many years if we don’t get a harsh winter (like the last two LOL!) it is a commonly available “tropical looking Palm” that Palm illiterate homeowners buy at big box stores here and then wonder why they keep dying in Winter.

Yeah, they've one of those palms with nuts bigger'n yours . . . .  hee hee hee, about twice or three times the size of queen palm seeds.

It's trunk is a nice color (will post a pic) a bit smaller, with denser darker green leaves.

Hey Dave, I just collected a couple of seeds on a trip to Florida last month.  I read that they are easy to germinate - have you germinated any of yours?

Not yet, but they're soaking. I even gave a few to a fellow Palm Talker, if they want to out themselves, I'll let them.

Syagrus rock, though sometimes long long after the fact . . . .

The regular version brings big bats by the dozen so I wonder if they find picophylla equally attractive.

You said or a similar Syagrus! Well this is a plant of mine bought as picrophylla but it turned out either a coronata or a hybrid of latter with picrophylla.20231119_160021.thumb.jpg.b545166b801cba733a9af4f4045b8dfa.jpg20231015_172702.thumb.jpg.637495228319113dd75283576e2b3a2d.jpg20231017_093037.thumb.jpg.b435fcb25b4c3328b99cf75a122d554e.jpg20231015_172600.thumb.jpg.f7bd7d422a3b6dc2386e3fc1e2791061.jpg

Btw I got several seeds of the real picrophylla with quite poor germination success, only three plants. On the bright side, seedlings seem rather easy growers and leaf texture resembles so far this of a young Arecastrun.

I'm waiting for my S amara to mature! It's a large seedling at this point - fronds up about 10 feet tall but no trunk

The one in your picture looks like a coronata, with those distinctive leaves. I've got one of those, too!

My S picrophyllas are still small. Two entire leafed ones and one larger pinnate one.
