I purchased a case of tree pots 2.38 x 5 for some Copernicia seeds that are sprouting. Would you out a piece of ground cloth in bottom of pot to keep the soil in or nothing at all? I have never used these type of pots before. So looking for experience with these. Also purchased the heavy duty trays for them as well. Just not sure if the soil will stay in by itself?

I myself always add pieces of cloth to the bottom of these ..otherwise goodbye soil. In the tubes anyway, lol.

I tear off a piece of paper towel and shove it in the bottom before filling it up.  By the time the towel disintegrates, the pot should be full of roots anyway.

My neighbor has a window screen business so obviously has rolls of screen material. He gave me a bunch of sq/ft and I cut it to the bottom shape of the pots that I need to stop the medium from coming out. Works wonders.

If that hookup goes away, I’ll just go to HD or a big box store and buy a roll.

Aw, hell @Barry, just stuff the dirt in there, then PUSH IT IN HARD with another pot, hell yeah, it'll stay in there. Assuming it's potting soil.

I know, I've done THOUSANDS, gawd, I feel old.

You go brother! Off in the wild yonder of palm nuttiness!

I have a dozen or more mature Livistona chinensis so I just walk over to the closest one within reach and there is this fibrous mesh behind the old leaf bases that I can remove and stuff into the bottom of the pots.

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions! Since I hand mix my soil, I will try and see how it sits in the pots.
