Mine is also about 10 years old. I think that many people think that since this is a desert palm that it doesn’t need or like to much water. Mine is planted on the edge of my lawn and really never drys out. It has been one of the fastest palms and definitely the fastest brahea I have. I planted it out as a little 1 foot bugger. I would try more water and see if it takes off for you. Sorry for the night photo.  I’ll try to get a better shot in the next few days.

steve did it ever get silver on the upper side of the leaves?  mine is about 8 feet tall and still has green upper and silvery lower on the palmate leaves.

Yeah. It was white on top about the same time as the bottom. I know the night photo makes it look greener. Here the top and bottom of the same leaf from a few years ago. In the first pic you can see the top and bottom of the leaf on the far left where the leaflets were folded over.

I can't say I have seen to many In person.  I do wonder if my climate makes a difference too.  Being in Santee I'm about 18 miles to the ocean but I'm in a bowl.  it's hotter in summer , drier and colder in winter than most of San Diego.  I always felt that the white is a natural sunscreen so maybe that plays a part but that's based on absolutely nothing scientific. It has been a fun plan to watch grow though.

I've definitely noticed it loves water; I'm on a very hot, steep sandy and shallow slope so that's no doubt been the limiting factor on my growth.
