Native palms along coastal preserve on cocoa beach, FL.

Visited the Mansfield Maritime Hammock today.  I recall reading that the entire park is within 1200 feet of the Atlantic Ocean. Nice elevated boardwalks throughout. Views over the dunes to the surf.  Very peaceful and active with wildlife.  Sounds of pounding surf even when you’re surrounded by forest.  Seeing a few species of palms over and over that appear native to here with a few coconut palms. Active surfer spot as well.

Also some high up views from  my room with the preserve/hammock directly adjacent to the hotel.

…And of course I had to snap some shots of the piping plovers😁

The pipers are more attractive than the typical sea-pigeons one sees.

Ah, only an hour away from cocoa beach; I’m so envious 😁.  So many nice resort hotels along that beach and If you are there more than a day trip I recommend staying at the Hilton ocean front hotel. It abuts the Hammock!

I’m estimating 18’ at least. Judging by the boardwalk in that area, the height of the boardwalk is about 10’ above ground and the seagrape looks to be about another 8’ higher than the boardwalk in one of those pictures.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront.  It's about an hour and 15 minutes from my front door.  Sometimes we just jump in the car and go for a long weekend.  Great hotel.  Because I was a "Hilton" guy when I worked, I can normally get them to include the breakfast with the room.  They have a tremendous breakfast buffet with an omelet station.  If you're looking for a place to stay in that area, you can't go wrong staying there.

When we are there, we normally take one day and just go exploring.  I make a left out of the parking lot onto A-1-A and head south.  Sometimes we make it all the way to the bridge at Sebastian Inlet and cross into Indian River County.  The homes along A-1-A and the landscaping is very impressive.  That area is a solid zone 10B with the plants to prove it.

In that area, there is a restaurant named Fishlips at Port Canaveral that is not to be missed.  Great seafood and atmosphere.

Winter Springs (Orlando area), Florida

Zone 9b/10a
