TO TRIM OR NOT: Canary Island Date Palms

TO TRIM or NOT TRIM:
Tldr: tree #1 can we save it from it's leaning crown? Both trees, do we trim the fronds that are hanging low even though they are green?
🌴🎄🌴
We are palmtree newbies, and just had five mules, a pindo, and two canaries planted in our backyard in October. The canaries were planted and untied immediately.  Pool/yard guy said they "can't get enough water" when transplanted so we watered like crazy for about 4 weeks (twice a day, 20-30 mins a whack) and put 2 rounds of root stim on (4 weeks apart.)  Both of them started drooping green fronds and got a bit yellow at the frond bases so pool guy said to lay off the water a bit and see how they do.  ( hopefully you can see from the photo how they are still green but they're yellow and bent as they come out of the tree.)  We've cut back to 30-minute water every other day.

🌴Tree #1:  the crown/new growth got blown over in the wind at about week 3 and continues to lay sideways; new growth is coming out at 45* 😱  what do we do for this one? And what do we do with all of the fronds that are laying down?

🌴Tree #2: seems to be doing pretty well considering and has put out new fronds in the middle.  What do we do with the green ones that are on the ground?!  They're dragging in the dirt, getting in the pool, and are in general in the way but from what I read it sounds like they are "feeding and supporting" the tree.

I believe trimming will be moot w/in 3 months.

Hi melanierae06,

Welcome to PalmTalk!  Hopefully, you will receive additional replies from PalmTalkers who are wiser than me.  However, in my admittedly not-so-wise view, you should not cut off any green fronds on those palms, if you can suffer walking around the drooping fronds.  As you know, your palms do not look great.  I don't know if it's transplant shock or worse.  I hope they will survive.  I recommend that you give them every chance you can, including by not cutting off any green fronds.

Best,

Andrei
