Thinning A Reclinata

Ok so I planted this about 4 years ago from a small 5 gallon I got from Kevin weaver . I’m wondering what would be the best time to start thinning this clump Out to the desired amount of trunks ? Or do I just let it do its thing a little longer . I’m guessing right now it’s about 8 heads atleast it has really gotten massive . It is planted at the outskirts of my septic leach field . Gets no water from irrigation just rain water and ground water .

Given my experience with Phoenix reclinata, I would start thinning it out to your preferred number of trunks now.  Thinning it will be a lifetime project.  Pick an odd number of trunks and go for it.  The longer you wait and the denser it gets, the more likely you are to take a needle or two when you finally get around to it.

Thank you guys . Pretty much what I was thinking .  What’s everyone’s opinion on how many trunks to leave ? 6 to 10 seems to look nicest .

5 to 7 would work for me,  most designers consider odd numbers preferable.  :)

5 or 7 imo.  My yard is smaller so I took mine back to 3 main trunks about 10 years ago.
