This winter has been tough in Scandinavia. More or less below normal since October, which is a rare sight these days. For sure the worst since 2010, which was the coldest since 1987 (and so on).

Do you guys think this Trachy migth be able to make it?

Damn, and after that a week of near 80°several days and it is going to trigger more buds to burst. Spring in mid Feb -I will take it! My daffodils are opening, which is about 2 weeks early.  Watch it snow come March or April, Texas has mean tricks up her sleave!

It's still february so no one should be surprised... This is exactly why, especially for things like fruit trees, we need to acquire and grower later blossoming varieties.  There are plenty of later blossoming varieties that help with these early freezes... albeit, this isn't much of a freeze, let's be honest.

I think we're all allowed to express ourselves as long as we don't break the rules of this forum and respect each other . Their was no nasty language or anything like that but to some people can’t handle disagreements . I don't beat behind the bush or sugar coat everything.  But anyway we can open a new Texas photo forum if ya'll are interested in it.

From the sources I know freezes in February are pretty common in Texas . Even March can surprise us with some freezing temperatures.  So far we only expect a light freeze around the 32f mark for an hour or two that shouldn't have no negative effect on our plants unless tender plants were planted recently.  I don't know how cold it gets up north where you live.

We do probably need to do something Texas specific.  I'd be all for it, free speech and all.

Absolutely I agree with you we don't live in China with censored internet. This is America people!!! It's absolutely normal to disagree.  That's what social media is all about and indeed it's still all educational.  I've learned more about birds using dead palm trees for housing.

Wow, it's as if you were my eyes last time I was in Galveston after the huge freeze in '22! Plants have made a remarkable recovery as I prayed they would. That spring looked like a bomb had gone off, everything scorched ruined.

The other plants took that 23°Jan blitz pretty amazing so it must have not lasted long? All in all I am impressed with Moody and surroundings plantings in terms of variety and quantity! What a gem Galveston still is for us  palmophiles!

That's the most impressive specimen (in terms of HOU area tropical plants) regarding the recovery after the recent 2020s freezes. Good shot!

Is that really early for daffodils in Dallas? Here in Tennessee, I usually first notice daffodils bloom in mid February, and Dallas is substantially hotter than anywhere here is.

I'm just a neurodivergent Middle Tennessean guy that's obsessively interested in native plants (especially evergreen trees/shrubs) from spruces to palms.

Might as well start a new thread. Either on this forum, or in the "Palms Worldwide" section.

Alvin is kinda boring lol there used to be a few trunking Bismarck’s next to Alvin HS but they died in the 2018 ice storm other than that we just have the basic queens and oddball foxtail that will burn most years lol

Nice finds in Galveston @Cade! It really amazes me how much warmer Galveston stays compared to areas much further south on the Coastal Bend.  I swear it's a tad warmer in winter than even Corpus Christi, certainly warmer than inland areas around CC, such as Robstown and the Airport.

In Aransas County the freeze last month knocked the Giant BOPs back to the ground and several smaller Queens have spear-pulled. Larger queens still look good though.  Unprotected Pygmy Dates were again completely annihilated.

I'm impressed with my Avocado tree here in SATX, it has some damage to the newer leaves, but most were unphased from the low of 17F back in January. Now everything has started to grow again and we are supposed to reach 88F tomorrow!
